Carmel Sands

About the Project
An existing hotel located on half a city block in downtown Carmel by the Sea was to be replaced with a new condominium hotel. The developers wanted to tie the style of the building to the Mediterranean architecture found around Carmel by the Sea, so we interspersed the structure with contemporary, heavy timber and glass structures. A sunken courtyard provides additional outdoor space and daylight for the proposed spa. The units were designed to either be sold or managed by a hotel group. The project lost its funding in 2008
